Phoenix Dactylifera, commonly known as the date palm tree, is the most ancient cultivated tree in the world that roots back to early 4,000 BC. The date palm tree has since played a major significance to civilizations where it was, and still is a source of staple food, shelter and shade. Date farming plays a major significance for the economy where it is the primary agricultural crop in Oman constituting 80% of all fruit crops produced and 50% of the total agricultural area in the country.
